Guess Who's Back!

It's been a long time since I have blogged! I'm sure I have no followers anymore, which is okay since I write mostly for myself. So much has happened after the PCT and yet, I feel like I've been stuck in a hole. Josh and I both went down hill after the trail emotionally and physically.  I hit the wall and ended up in a bunch of psychiatric offices and finally came out with a couple new diagnoses and a new therapist who has actually been really cool. It's hard to explain to them how the trail changed me. How it seemed to bulldoze any semblance of who I thought I was right down to the foundation. It's hard even to explain to you.

I put on about 70lbs while playing the psychiatric medication game and I feel and look like shit for it. I've struggled with binge eating since I was very young and I'm finally to the point now where I feel like I'm ready to deal with this head on. I am seeing a nutritionist as well as an eating disorder therapist and I'm hopeful that this is going to be a positive new part of me that I'm footing into my newly bulldozed foundation.

But it hasn't all been bad since I've been gone! Lets get on to the good things!

Josh and I bought a house together in August! Trip out on that, right?! It is weird because we just kind of floated into it and it happened effortlessly. We're right across the street from Mission Trails Regional Park too. I mean, come on...how perfect is that?!

So we've been spending a lot of time doing work on the house and it has been a lot of fun. So far we've replaced our bathroom vanity and created a built in for the medicine cabinet as well as a lot of painting.

We've also been building cat walks and shelves for our three cats. Josh's two cats seem to hate me and my cat Joey so it's slow going. We have our upstairs and downstairs sectioned off so no body kills anyone else.

But probably the most exciting news that has happened has been the iminent arrival of my NEW NEPHEW! Yes, my baby brother is having a baby and I couldn't be happier for this wonderful surprise! I've been geeking out over this little guy and have been teaching myself to quilt!

I haven't been doing much hiking, as you can tell by my huge body, but I did manage to get out when the weather broke here for a day and it wasn't hot and steamy like it has been. I did the visitor's center loop in MTRP and it was so good to get my feet in the dirt. I can't wait to get back out once it cools off here. San Diego has been brutally hot lately and I'm just too fat to cope with it.

So, that's about all that has been going on here recently. I am happy to get back in the dirt and back in shape now that things seem to have come to homeostasis after the PCT. I hope to have many more adventures to post as looking back on my adventures before really make me happy.

  1. Nice to see you're alive and well Mandy! FYI I read every post of yours from the first to the last.

Mandy always know this, while you didn't thru hike the entire trail, you are a long distance hiker. You will always be!

    Keep posting Mandy

  2. Nope. We haven't all gone away. Been waiting for a new post. I love those kitty stairs to the shelves! We have 3 cats and two dislike each other so we need to figure it out. Glad you may hike some more. You could do a few more pct sections. Cause I need more blogs to read!
